The opening Scripture is mentioned twice in the New Testament. This parable was pulled from Luke 6:46-49 NIV.
Important Scripture: (Luke 6:46-49 NIV)
46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
Verse 46 & 47
Although the crowd included very religious people (including the Pharisees), Jesus was telling them that they were still alienated from God and far from God. They were separated by sin, and the need to repent. Jesus gave us the key to be transformed.
We must come to Jesus, hear his words and put them into practice. Doing so, will allow US to weather any storm (trial, tribulation, hurt or pain) that comes our way.
Remember - Jesus said "I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance".
Verse 48 & 49
When Jesus references a house, he was referring to our lives. We must lay the foundation of our lives on solid ROCK. The foundation is Jesus Christ and the Rock is GOD! This is also referenced in the book of Psalms, Samuel and Daniel. As mentioned in the New Testament, "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have, Jesus-Christ" (1 Corinthians 3:11 NIV).
We know that we can do all things to Christ who strengthens us. We must always keep our sight on Him and not our circumstances. He has already overcome the WORLD. Allow Him to fight your battles. That's the faith that comes with Christ as your Savior. Nothing or no one can tear you down. He is a guarantee of that!
So, take a moment to reflect on your personal life. Is the foundation of your life rooted in Jesus Christ and His teachings? If so, Praise God! If not...reach out to us to pray for you. Then, repent and ask Jesus to come into your life as your Lord and Savior. I promise, He will show you the way.
