Our Apologies...We experienced some technical difficulties when streaming live on Wednesday, May 9th. This message was recorded following the live session when the issues were resolved. We deeply apologize to those who were tuning in live and could not hear the message. Praise God we found the root of the problem and were able to bring you the message, in the name of Jesus!
This particular scripture is referenced 3 other times in the New Testament. However, the book of Matthew truly provides a clear understanding to break the word down.
Important Scripture: (Matthew 5:14-15 NIV)
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house."
Jesus is often referred to as the "light of the world". However, He references His disciples (including you and I) as the light in this Scripture. Why was Jesus calling us to be the light?
In the Scriptures, Jesus referenced town on a hill and light in a house. What was He trying to illustrate in using these two references? Consider the town on a hill as the outside world, and light in a house as what we do behind closed doors.
Matthew 5:16 NIV
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
In everything we do we should be glorifying our Father in heaven. We should start everyday, with the goal of making a difference and impacting the life of someone else. What may seem to be a small gesture to you, may mean the world to someone else. Most importantly, you never know if it's just what they needed or prayed for at that moment in their life. Will you be a blessing to someone today?
What are you doing to stay close to the source of the light JESUS? Are you making time to read and mediate on God's Word? Are you making prayer part of your everyday life? Do you delight in the Lord in song? These are just a few things to think about this week, and hopefully the Lord will make a way for you to make time for Him.
